This is an established Community General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist post working within Central Newcastle Upon Tyne. The CMHT is positioned in Secondary Care and has a pivotal role in directly delivering specialist community mental health services, but also an interface with Primary care, Specialist Services such as Perinatal Mental Health, Eating Disorders, Early Intervention in Psychosis and Rehabilitation Services and many other specialist services.

Main duties of the job
This is a fixed term post for 6 months working 6 PA's into the North and East Community Treatment Team.
The post holder will provide senior and clinical leadership input working alongside all members of the MDT team. Main duties are listed within the job description attached to this advert

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Desirable criteria
- An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings
- Experience of Clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
- Experience in service management or development
Skills
Essential criteria
- High level of clinical skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Adult Psychiatry
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent teaching skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner

- Established record of clinical leadership
