Job overview

The Department of Neurosciences is looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Patient Pathway Manager to deliver strategic, operational and performance based improvements within our Neurology and Stroke services. Working with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues you will ensure that services are delivered within available capacity using all resources at your disposal and for the benefit of all key stakeholders and service users.
You will have proven experience in managing a diverse team of administrative staff and wide, detailed knowledge of RTT, Cancer and Diagnostic pathways within secondary care. Knowledge of Stroke pathways is also desirable. A significant part of this role will be to provide a strategic overview of all specialties within Neurosciences whilst planning for any periods of recovery within set performance metrics.
You will have a strong character and be able to influence decisions within the team to ensure that patients are seen and treated within a timely manner. You will have experience and knowledge in correct escalation processes and be confident in resolving issues within the services.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to play a huge role in establishing robust systems and strategic improvements for patients who have been referred for specialist advice and intervention. We would welcome applicants who have middle management experiences and working knowledge of patient pathways and are looking to progress further in their career.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Pathway Manager will work in partnership with the General Manager, managing a defined area of responsibility providing managerial leadership, expertise and operational support to staff within the area of management.

Works with the General Manager, with a focus on delivery of RTT and Cancer constitutional standards, to support the wider strategic development of the service by providing both operational business support in the development and implementation of the Care Group’s strategic objectives.

The Patient Pathway Manager will lead a team of administrative staff in the delivery of elective and non-elective care pathways.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal in 2024.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
