Are you a current HART Operative ready to take the next step in your career? We’re looking for a passionate, committed, and forward-thinking individual to join the North West Ambulance Service as a HART Team Leader.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who knows the team, understands the environment, and wants to make a difference not just in critical incidents - but in the development, wellbeing, and success of colleagues.

As a HART Team Leader, you will report to the HART Group Manager and play a vital role in leading and supporting HART. You'll be responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care, ensuring compliance with national and Trust requirements, and promoting clinical and operational excellence in the most challenging environments. 

This is a chance to step into a key leadership position, where you’ll balance operational delivery with people management, becoming a role model for the values and behaviours that define NWAS.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide direct line management to HART Operatives and Specialist Paramedics.
  • Lead by example in clinical practice, professionalism, and operational performance.
  • Support your colleagues through welfare conversations, appraisals, and mentorship.
  • Monitor sickness and promote long-term health and wellbeing within the team.
  • Oversee logistics including fleet and equipment readiness.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of HART.
  • Deputise and act on behalf of the HART Group Manager.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Competent and skilled paramedic with proven clinical skills and a commitment to delivering high standards of patient care.
  • Demonstrable compassionate and inclusive leadership.
  • Experience in the application of HR processes.
  • Evidence of understanding and insight into HR and wellbeing issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of line management responsibilities.
  • Understanding of the Trust’s risk management system and ability to undertake Dynamic Operational Risk Assessments and manage risk in accordance with these procedures.
  • Understanding of and demonstrable commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity, both as a colleague and as a provider of a service to the public.
  • Effective written, verbal, listening and communication skills in high stress environments.

  • Ability to conduct investigations into any accident or other untoward incident relating to HART in accordance with local procedures and completing the relevant paperwork in the appropriate manner.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • HCPC Registered Paramedic
  • BSC Degree in Paramedic Practice or relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration Paramedic experience alongside evidence of active engagement with CPD.
  • Significant and demonstrable HART operational experience and evidence of completion or working towards HART Team Leader portfolio.
  • Expert knowledge of pre-hospital care and able to demonstrate credibility.
  • Qualified HART IRU and associated specialist courses (see section 7.4).
  • Understanding of the background to and aims of HART provision and service delivery within commissioned requirements.
  • Level 3 in Education and Training or equivalent.

Experience

  • Expert Knowledge of HART SOP’s and JOP’s.
  • Experience of Incident Management.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to deliver high standards of clinical care at height and other areas of difficult access.
  • Ability to deliver high standards of clinical care in enclosed, confined spaces.
  • Capable of swimming 100m in still water and short distances in swift flowing water.
  • Ability to don specialist PPE for protracted periods of time.
  • Able to pass a physical competence assessment prior to selection and maintain physical competence in line with national standards to pass biannual fitness test (including dragging 83Kg, lifting 40Kg and carrying 31Kg in PPE).

  • To be part of 24/7 Response Team working unsocial hours.
  • Low level of absence due to sickness in the last two years.
  • No outstanding disciplinary sanctions.
  • Have a satisfactory DBS check.
  • Occupational Health clearance.
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence with Class C1.
  • Flexibility required surrounding shifts and time away from home, including the requirement to attend residential training courses to achieve required standards.
  • Ability to be called for mutual aid with the possibility of overnight deployments beyond normal working patterns.
