Main duties of the job

This postholder will co-lead the delivery of an efficient, tailored service in relation to the management of theatre services alongside the SGH Head of Supply.  

They will act with autonomy to ensure all materials are managed in a way so that they are in the right place at the right time across the UEL sites and the remote store, ultimately managing all stores and warehousing operational processes, overseeing a team of over 30 individuals, as well as managing UEL-owned assets and resources.  The postholder will also deliver service improvement and development as the company grows and expands.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post holder will lead the supplies and materials team, alongside the head of supply, with specific responsibility for supply to specialist departments at Southampton General Hospital, the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and the UEL Warehouse at Eastleigh.

The ability to travel between sites is essential.

Demonstrable supply chain management experience is also essential, preferably within the NHS or healthcare sector.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree level education or equivalent experience
  • Supply chain management training to be supplemented by additional specialist courses as required or relevant experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development – such as business information, operational management, supply chain/transport/distribution/logistics professional qualifications – ie CIPS
  • Evidence of working at senior level.
  • IT and/or data handling/processing professional qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Experience of dealing with non-routine and complex problems.
  • Experience managing project work.
  • Experience in analysing and evaluating highly complex data sets, providing reports and interacting with multiple, highly complex IT systems/platforms.
  • Experience in presenting reports and service delivery plans to senior managers and board level (which could be detailed, highly complex – derived from multiple sources, or sensitive/confidential in nature).
  • Experience of establishing new storage/logistics functions
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to learn and assimilate information quickly
  • Ability to work autonomously and within tight timescales.
  • Numeracy and an understanding of finance for stock management.
Desirable criteria
  • Hold a UK driving licence – Able to travel between sites and remote warehouse
  • Evidence of qualifications for use of manual handling equipment (eg forklift, pallet mover) +/- trainer qualification
