Are you ready to lead a team and be part of protecting personal data and shaping the future of digital healthcare? Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Information Governance Specialist – Team Leader to join our Digital Directorate.
As our IG Specialist Team Leader, you’ll be the Trust’s go-to person on all things Information Governance. You’ll look after a dedicated team, oversee compliance with data protection legislation, and lead the Trust’s annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission. From policy development to incident response, your work will safeguard sensitive information and support safe, effective care across our services.
Main duties of the job
• Lead and manage IG Officers, ensuring equitable task distribution and high performance
• Provide expert guidance on GDPR, FOI, confidentiality, and data security along with giving support to other functions e.g. Health Records Management and Information Rights
• Monitor compliance through audits, site visits, and risk assessments
• Drive the Trust’s IG training and awareness programme
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including the ICO, NHS England, and third-party providers
• Support the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record systems and IG-related projects
• Maintain the Information Asset Register and Records of Processing Activity

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree level or equivalent experience
- Data Protection Practitioner Certificate or equivalent experience
- Freedom of Information Certificate or equivalent experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive knowledge and understanding in the principles of the Data Protection Act 2018 / GDPR 2016, FOI Act, NHS Code of Confidentiality, EIR, Health Records and other related IG legislation and standards
- Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT)
- Knowledge of Caldicott principles
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in a similar role demonstrating a range of understanding
- Experience of development and delivery of training programmes to multi-disciplinary audiences
- Experience in dealing with complex and confidential issues and situations maintaining professional conduct and focused solution
