Consultant in Renal Medicine

Consultant

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic clinician to join our friendly and forward-thinking team of Consultants delivering Renal care at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

This substantive Consultant post will work with a team of three consultants supporting the service in nephrology, general medicine, the dialysis unit and providing long-term transplant follow ups.  A passion for providing high-quality, patient-centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings is essential.

There is a long-term plan for reconfiguration of the Renal Services to a hub and spoke model. The Inpatient hub will be situated at the Basildon site, with Nephrologists in the region rotating through the inpatient service. However, at  this current time this role is based at Southend Hospital.

We offer you a supportive environment where innovation and teamwork are highly valued. You'll join a cohesive department that works closely with other specialties and values shared learning and improvement.

Whether you're looking to develop a specialist interest, contribute to service development, or simply thrive in a collaborative and modern hospital setting, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow your career.

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive full time consultant post in Nephrology.  If appointed, you will join a team of 3 other nephrologists in the kidney service delivered at all three hospital sites within the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

  • You will be on a 1 in 4 rota.
  • You will be responsible for weekly clinics and for managing a cohort of hemodialysis patients.  There is an opportunity to develop regional specialist clinics that may occur at all three sites.
  • You will be expected to contribute regularly to procedure supervision and training of resident doctors and participate in the rota with other consultant nephrologists to cover inpatient and on-call commitments.
  • In addition, you will contribute to the education of trainees, quality improvement, research activities, and clinical governance of the service.
  • Rotation through in-patient renal and general medicine services
  • Delivery of secondary care-based kidney disease management, including dialysis care(peritoneal dialysis care in particular) and out-patient clinics

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
