Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as an Inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist in an open rehab 17 bed move-on rehabilitation unit. The Unit is Willow View and is based at St Nicholas Hospital. The role is currently 8 PA and is a fixed term opportunity for twelve months. The postholder would be asked to work flexibly to contribute towards 7 day working arrangement for the inpatient wards working with a senior leadership team on weekends.

 

You will provide senior expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients with complex psychosis and rehabilitation needs. The post holder will work alongside colleagues of other professional disciplines (ward manager, clinical lead, pharmacist) to provide a tailored multidisciplinary package of treatment and support rehabilitation and recovery.

 

The successful candidate will be on the specialist register and will hold approved clinician status.

Main duties of the job

The role will be working into Willow View, and flexible working to contribute towards offering senior input as part of the senior leadership team on weekends covering 3 acute adult inpatient wards all based at St Nicholas hospital.

 

The role will be as a Consultant Psychiatrist providing senior medical input into Willow View. This is a 17 bedded Rehabilitation Move-on Inpatient Unit based at St Nicholas Hospital. The service is for men and women over the age of 18 who require a safe and therapeutic environment to help with rebuilding life skills. The ward is an open environment which accommodated both patients detained under the Mental Health Act and those in hospital on an informal basis. The ward is staffed by both registered mental health nurses and nursing assistants on a 24/7 day a week basis.

 

The post holder will provide senior medical input for the ward, work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary team, being able to establish and maintain good working relationships with others.

 

To lead, collaborate and advise on research and audit projects in the team, within the clinical governance agenda. Always ensure is fit to practice by keeping knowledge up to date.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status. 

Senior medical input into the ward, 17 bed rehabilitation unit, working with a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will provide senior expertise in the engagement, assessment, diagnosis, formulation and initial treatment plans for patients who were transferred to the Rehabilitation Ward from acute wards and who needed support around further improvement of their mental health and of their independent living skills. Respect the rights and dignity of patients, considered the individual and cultural needs of each patient and work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient. Be aware of the Trust Policies and Procedures in order for their practice to always be compliant with these.

Work with the senior leadership team flexibly as part of the 7-day working initiative for the acute adult inpatient wards. This will include advice, signposting, seclusion reviews, support with observations, complex clinical issues and coordination of debrief as required. There are three wards in Central Community Business Unit, Fellside 18 bed male acute, Lowry 18 bed female and Lamesley 18 bed female all based at St Nicholas Hospital.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
  • Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Approved Clinician Status
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Desirable criteria
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Experience in service management or development

Skills

  • High level of clinical skills
