Job overview
This new vacancy is to support in providing holistic health care that incorporates philosophies of primary and mental health care by a General Practitioner to a group of patients who may not have traditional access to primary care like the general population. The patients in inpatient adult and old age wards often have complex mental and physical health care needs, polypharmacy. The post holder will have a crucial role in collaborative leadership in contribution to holistic and integrated care of inpatients and thus have a crucial role in enhancing quality of life and reducing morbidity and mortality.

Main duties of the job
This is an excellent and new opportunity for a GP who has a special interest in Psychiatry. Reviewing physical and mental health status, arranging relevant investigations, carrying out risk assessments and managing the risks, reducing polypharmacy, support with creation and management of comprehensive safe treatment plans and education are some of the key areas in which the GP can contribute.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be working in addition to the current multidisciplinary input into the 4 wards (general adult x2, one older adult functional illness ward and one older adult dementia ward).
Focus initially will be on old age wards to give professional supervision and advice to colleagues and contribute to pharmacy led prescribing meetings. It is envisaged that the post holder will work minimum 4 programmed activities over 2 days.

- Registered with the local CCG as a GP on the performers list
- An area of special interest relevant to psychiatry
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- On the GP register with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Desirable criteria
- Has undergone training in educational supervision.
- Has undergone training in appraisal
- MRCGP
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
- Experience of Clinical Audit.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and mental health settings
Skills

- High level of clinical skills.
