Job overview
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, supportive team working in Emergency Care. The Emergency Department is a friendly, exciting place to work currently undergoing a large transformational project with exciting new developments and opportunities.
We are looking for Receptionists to work on our friendly reception desks in the Emergency Department. The successful candidates will undertake a variety of reception duties including working on our A&E, SDEC, AMU and Guildford Ward Reception and processing Patient data. You will also act as a focal point of communication between Patients, Ambulance Crews and Medical / Clinical staff.
The successful candidates will have a friendly and professional attitude, good IT and organisational skills and be able to accurately complete / input data. The successful candidate will also need to be able to deal with difficult and stressful situations with courtesy and empathy.
The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including bank holidays. You will be rostered to work a range of shift patterns which include days, evenings, nights and weekends. This will be planned 6 weeks in advance.
Main duties of the job
To provide a calm, friendly and welcoming reception to Emergency Floor incorporating A and E, Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care and Guildford Ward.
Provide a friendly, caring and efficient reception service to our Emergency Floor.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working a flexible shift pattern (days, evenings, nights and weekends to cover 24/7 you will provide a full range of reception / clerical duties to the Emergency Department. Shifts will be allocated 6 weeks in advance.
Including:
• Receive and register all patients onto the patient information database (CERNER)
• Patient care
• Attending to Ambulance Crews
• Filing
• Tracking of Patient pathway
• Admit and discharge patients to other areas within the Emergency Department
(AEC)
• Booking patient follow-up appointments liaising with other departments if necessary
• Assist with the management of Patient records (CAS cards and medical notes) – filing and retrieval of cards when required
• Telephone enquiries

- General education to GCSE level
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in patient contact position
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience in admin role

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
