This is a specialist service and is an excellent opportunity to develop a more effective, responsive and flexible Liaison Psychiatry Service for both the elderly and working age population within South Tyneside District Hospital.

The service operates on a 24hours/7 day per week basis. There are extensive opportunities for service development, especially in the wider context of the NHS Long Term Plan. Provision of all-age Liaison services across the UK aligns with NHS Long Term Plan ambitions.

You will join an experienced and well-established multidisciplinary team (MDT) of Liaison Nurses currently working with patients from across the adult age spectrum.

Medical input has been provided hitherto on a less than full time basis and a restructuring in funding provision has underpinned the creation of this new post. The team operates on a 24 hours/7 day per week basis and sees patients referred with any mental health presentation, self-harm or suicide attempt from the Emergency Department within 1 hour. It aims to see inpatient ward referrals within 24 hours.
