Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a valuable member of a successful electronic medical equipment (EME) team who will build on their basic engineering skills and education. 

Under supervision, the post holder will assist the Bed Engineer with the repair and maintenance program on a wide range of electric profiling beds, treatment couches, treatment chairs and pressure relief systems across the Royal Surrey Hospital and external customer’s sites

The Trainee Engineer will have a good grounding in electrical and electronic systems. Full manufacturer training will be provided to enable the individuals to work independently.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

•    Assist with the preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection and repair to a wide range of patient-critical beds, treatment couches, treatment chairs and pressure relief mattress systems
•    Check that equipment performs to manufacturer’s specification
•    Carry out electrical safety testing to IEC62353
•    Carry out commissioning and decommissioning of medical devices
•    Undertake audits on medical devices 
•    The post holder must be able to move and carry equipment in excess of 20Kg
•    Keep accurate records and update any work carried out by the post holder in e-Quip
•    Documentation of processes for use across EME departments by both technical and non-technical personnel

Person specification

Qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • HNC / HND level education, equivalent professional qualifications or relevant experience of operating at this level
  • Additional specialist knowledge acquired through Manufacture training or equivalent experience
  • Registration as Clinical Technologist or Scientist

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Experience with EQUIP or similar asset management systems
  • Experience of use of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, excel, outlook
  • OEM training on electric profiling beds, patient trolleys, treatment couches and pressure relief systems.
  • Experience of working in the patient environment
