Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated infection prevention and control practitioner to join our Infection Prevention Team to provide expert clinical and professional infection prevention and control leadership across the trust and operational management to the infection prevention and control team, and to act as deputy for the Consultant Nurse, Infection Prevention & Control. 

The Trust has clear priorities for improving patient safety and delivering a positive patient experience by reducing healthcare-associated infections. This role is important for our patients and staff, with a Trust-wide remit supporting the delivery of the infection prevention and control service within UHS, providing expertise and leadership in the prevention, management and control of infection and supporting team and trust objectives by developing and leading projects, initiatives and workstreams to support the prevention and control of infection.

The Infection Prevention team provides services at the main Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital sites; within the Royal South Hants Hospital, New Forest Birthing Centre, and Lymington Hospital; and to the HIOW air ambulance service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities


As Matron for Infection Prevention & Control, you will
a)    Provide expert clinical and professional infection prevention and control (IPC) leadership across the trust and operational management to the infection prevention and control team.
b)    Act as deputy for the Consultant Nurse, Infection Prevention & Control, responsible for advice on all aspects of infection prevention and control within the Trust.
c)    Be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the IPC elements of the relevant trust strategies.
d)    Lead, manage and assume responsibility for key IPC workstreams, improvement priorities, projects, initiatives, developments and innovations, working in partnership with teams and staff to challenge, influence and implement change and improvement in practice, ensuring projects/plans are delivered and, where relevant, corrective action is taken, and clinical risk is managed. 
e)    Ensure delivery of the IPC strategy for research, quality improvement and audit in line with the trust plan and priorities.

Experience/skills needed. 


We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with specialist knowledge and experience across the spectrum of infection prevention activity: 

•    1st Level Registered nurse on the relevant part of the NMC Register / HCPC Registration.  Recent experience should have been at minimum Band 7.
•    Recognised specialist post-registration qualification/pathway of study in infection prevention & control.
•    Extensive experience in infection prevention & control in healthcare settings
•    Evidence of advanced leadership qualities.

  • Extensive experience in the acute healthcare setting in clinical leadership/clinical management position
