Senior MRI Radiographer

Are you a passionate MRI Radiographer ready to take the next step in your career? This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Imaging Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where you’ll play a key role in shaping and advancing our MRI services within a dynamic and forward-thinking team.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated radiographer with a strong commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and continually developing professional skills. Working as part of our dedicated multidisciplinary team, you’ll gain valuable experience across a broad range of MRI examinations, including, neuro, MSK, angiography, and dynamic studies.
Our Imaging Department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, featuring:

Two Siemens 1.5T MRI scanners on-site

One GE 1.5T Voyager MRI scanner at our Community Diagnostic Centre

And with a brand-new Imaging Scanning Centre set to open in March 2026, there’s never been a more exciting time to join us.

In this role, you’ll contribute to providing a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic MRI service while supporting and mentoring students and junior radiographers. You’ll also have access to ongoing CPD opportunities and hands-on experience to further enhance your expertise.

To work within MRI areas located throughout the trust conducting cross-sectional examinations using a range of MRI equipment upon various patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and requirements.

To proactively assist in the management of the MRI scanning department on a daily basis; whilst fostering a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This should include archiving correct patient data to PACS (picture archiving communications systems) and RIS (radiology information systems).

To supervise and teach radiographers new to MRI, student radiographers and imaging assistants and to actively help, teach and support training specialty doctors in radiology.

Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.  

Ensuring that at all times you act within your sphere of competence.

When required participate in MRI research and development.

Clinical

Work unsupervised, performing all MRI scans following imaging sequences and parameters set down in scanning protocols. 

Communication and relationship building

To assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the MRI checklists impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained. 

Responsibilities for analysis

Able to synthesize complex MRI referral details through analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of different imaging options. 

Managing people

To assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate radiographic staff.

  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
  • Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Evidence of keeping informed of the current MRI imaging techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR ’17 and associated codes of practice)
