Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated science graduate to work as a member of the paediatric sleep physiology team at West London Children's Healthcare (WLCH), based primairly at Imperial College Healthcare Trust (ICHT).
The Paediatric Sleep and Respiratory Physiology team is part of wider multi-disciplinary department consisting of clinical scientists, physiologists, clincal nurse specialists, respiratory physicians, and administrative staff. We provide sleep diagnostics for respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders via cardiorespiratory, polysomnography, MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test), and actigraphy sleep studies.
We are a rapidly expanding team that actively encourages career growth and continuing education. We are aligned with Imperial College London to conduct translational sleep and respiratory physiology research and encourage active engagement in research projects.
Further to this, there is opportunity to develop skills in lung function testing and to work with Imperial College London to produced translational research in the field as part of the wider research team.
Main duties of the job
- Interact closely with medical, scientific, nursing, and other staff to provide a high-qualitySleep Service dedicated to patient care.
- Competently perform high quality, accurate near patient diagnostic sleep studiesincluding those on invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
- Under supervision of senior staff, analyse and report paediatric cardiorespiratory sleep studies, including those on invasive / non-invasive ventilation.
- Assist with initiation of non-invasive ventilation for patients. Including mask fitting, patient/carer education, and device set-up.

Skills / Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Theoretical knowledge of human physiology
- Good technical skills and knowledge of respiratory physiological testing.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Must be able to recognise the limits of his/her/their own knowledge and expertise and to seek advice as appropriate
- Advanced IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge or abilities in the provision of cardiorespiratory or polysomnographic sleep studies in children.
- Ability to assist patients/carers with maskfittings, CPAP/NIV education sessions, troubleshooting queries, and annual reviews
- Competent in performing and interpreting spirometry in children
- Ability to perform more complex lung function testing in adults and/or children
