And as you are working in Child and Adolescent community Psychiatry you will work with the CPNs and integrated team psychologists to provide medical expertise for the young people across neurodevelopmental and Mental Health pathways You will be an active member in supporting the Trust and your team during this process.

The job is a 10 PAs a week over 5 days and you will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team, junior doctors, and wider clinical teams, you will be the medical perspective to ensure best practice care is delivered and support the team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holders will provide Medical input into the service and will support the service and the team for their proportion of patients being looked after by the team.

 

The post holder will participate, directly and indirectly, in the assessment of patients referred to the service and in drawing up care plans which will address the patients’ psychiatric, physical, and social needs.

 

The post holder will carry out detailed psychiatric assessments of patients as clinically indicated to allow accurate diagnoses and contribute to their treatment plans, including pharmacological management of psychotropic medication.

 

The post-holder will forge good working relationships with other psychiatrists/SAS doctors across the Directorate in order to encourage appropriate referrals and assure a cooperative approach to the care of patients. They will be linked in with SAS doctors and supported to join peer groups. They will also provide consultation and advice to members of the MDT and primary care colleagues

 

The post holder will have their own office space and will be supported by a medical secretary. 

 

This is a fixed term, full-time post however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Approved Clinician Status

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge in the field of psychiatry
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training including 2 years work experience in psychiatry
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in multi agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Experience in service management or development
  • Experience of clinical audit

Skills

Essential criteria
  • High level of clinical skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good teaching skills
  • Ability to work in a time efficient manner
Desirable criteria
  • Established record of clinical leadership
  • Established ability as a clinical teacher
  • Training in specific and relevant treatment skills eg a brief form of psychological therapy
