Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of our in-house Endoscope Reprocessing Unit (ERU) team, as a Decontamination Technician. 

Main duties will include to work in accordance with Departmental Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System. 

You will be required to undertake work across all sites (St Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital), Monday to Friday, with shift patterns between 08:00-20:00. Opportunities to work weekends as bank shifts are regularly available.

Main duties of the job

• To undertake decontamination science duties & assist (under supervision) the workforce of Decontamination Supervisors, in providing a high quality, specialised, safe & efficient decontamination of endoscopes & medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.
• To carry out the timely collection, receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, reassembly, packing, sterilization, dispatch & delivery of reusable medical devices. Record all tasks in the Healthcare Science Information Systems (tracking & tracing) database.
• Work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures & Quality Management Systems.
• To welcome & accompany visitors to the department.
• Plan your own workload with limited supervision to deliver timely, smooth & accurate production.
• The role involves exposure to blood & body fluids.

Essential criteria
  • English and mathematics to CSE Grade 3 or higher (or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ3 (Technical Certificate Decontamination) or equivalent level of knowledge & experience through decontamination training.
  • QMS / internal audit certificate.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience within a healthcare setting Decontamination
  • Infection control awareness
  • Customer service
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge & experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices / reprocessing technology.
  • Relevant Operator training.
  • Audit experience.
