We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse who is passionate about caring for older people and committed to delivering the highest standards of mental and physical healthcare. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate how they plan to carry out the responsibilities of the role, as well as their commitment to collaborative team working. 

The Clinical Team Leader will play a key role in leading others in the development of knowledge, ideas and clinical practice particularly in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care plans for older adults with both functional and organic mental illness.

You will support, guide and monitor the performance of nursing staff, including supervising the work of Staff Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and student nurses.

Main duties of the job

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Degree in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor qualification.
  • Mandatory training up to date in accordance with Trust requirements.
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of taking responsibility for a ward or leading clinical shifts.
  • Experience of supporting practice development within clinical areas.
  • Experience as a preceptor and/or mentor to students and junior staff.
  • Experience working within an inpatient mental health setting (older adults desirable).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research‑based and reflective practice, including the ability to use supervision to reflect on skills, attitudes and knowledge, and apply evidence‑based practice.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of safeguarding processes for both children and adults and understanding of patient safety principles
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Trust policies, procedures and service specifications.
  • Understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) and how they relate to team performance and service delivery.
  • Awareness of regional and national policies relevant to older people’s mental health services
  • Understanding of NICE guidance and governance procedures relating to patient safety and clinical quality. Comprehensive understanding of the Mental Health Act and its application within inpatient services
