Principle Infrastructure Engineer – Operations
The position of Principle Infrastructure Operations Engineer is available.
Providing effective support, maintenance and development to NWAS Server and Cloud Infrastructure (both in and out of office hours), NWAS needs to ensure that the right IT support is available in the Right Place, at the Right Time, Every Time.
As a part of the Trusts Technology Team, you will be the senior authority within NWAS regarding the server and cloud environments, responsible for the maintenance and management of both the existing and future developments
You will be considered the Subject Matter Expert for the Trusts Active Directory, Server, and Cloud architecture with at least 10 years maintaining, supporting and deploying around similar estates. You will use your highly developed technical knowledge and experience to drive continual improvement. You will be the ultimate escalation for all Trust Server, Cloud and Active Directory issues, providing advice and guidance to both the ICT Senior Management Team and the wider engineering team.

The post holder will work with industry leaders and experts to maintain the systems which meet the needs of our changing digital landscape, assessing business requirements across the Trust and recommending solutions which meet current requirements, whilst future proofing design and maintaining awareness of technology developments and the strategic direction of the trust. You will be expected to participate in senior meetings and help shape Trust policy.
You will ensure that designs incorporate resilience, reliability and sustainability. You will ensure comprehensive system design and configuration documentation is produced, maintained and controlled throughout the life of the solution.
Regular travel in your own vehicle may be required across the North West and occasionally nationally (subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions). We regret we cannot offer sponsorship and this position will require attending a main IT site three times a week as such a full driving license is a requirement. You will also be placed after a suitable period onto the Trusts On-Call Rota currently 1 day per week. Interview will be in person at one of our main sites within the North West.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

- Deep knowledge of server architecture, virtualisation, cloud operations, storage, and network operations.
- Proven experience implementing NHS digital standards, ISO27001, GDPR, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Expertise in automation tools and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to drive efficiency.
- Strong understanding of ITIL v4 principles and ability to shape service strategy and governance.
- Ability to define and govern operational standards for enterprise-level infrastructure.
