An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced leader to join the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking an exceptional individual to provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership for the BCSP, ensuring the delivery of a safe, effective, and patient-centred screening service in line with national programme standards and NHS priorities. The successful candidate will work closely with the BCSP Programme Manager, Clinical Leads, Endoscopy teams, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to support the continued development and performance of the service.
As a key member of the Digestive Diseases leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the patient pathway, ensuring high standards of care, supporting service development, and leading a dedicated team of specialist screening practitioners and administrative staff. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining quality standards, achieving programme targets, and driving continuous improvement across the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP), ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and effective service that meets national screening standards and quality assurance requirements. Working closely with the BCSP Programme Manager, Clinical Leads, Endoscopy teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues, the post holder will oversee the screening patient pathway, support service performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will lead and develop the BCSP workforce, ensuring patients receive excellent care and support throughout their screening journey. They will be responsible for monitoring quality indicators, managing service performance, supporting workforce planning, and contributing to the strategic development of the programme. The role requires strong leadership, effective communication skills, and a commitment to improving patient outcomes through the early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.
This is a key leadership position within the Digestive Diseases Clinical Service Unit, providing assurance that the service continues to deliver safe, patient-centred care while achieving national performance and quality standards.

Experience

- Significant experience working in Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
- Experience of managing patient experience and complaints
- Proven experience of leading a team and people management.

- Experience of successfully managing change within teams.
- Experience of representing teams at operational and strategic meetings.
- Experience of presenting information to different groups/meetings.
- Experience of clinical audits and developing audits
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- Comprehensive understanding of the BCSP service.
- In depth understanding of national standards for bowel cancer screening
- Knowledge of clinical governance and quality management systems
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of the NHS Cancer Plan and implications for BCSP
- Knowledge of working across multiple sites and organisations.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Level 1 (RN1)
- Certification in LJMU Bowel Cancer Specialist Screening Practitioner
- Teaching & assessing qualification e.g. ENB 998, NST 307
- Certification in Advanced Communication Skills
- Evidence of continuing professional development
