Job overview

To contribute to the delivery of high standards and committed services as part of a small but dedicated Estates Team. Problem solve and support all services in ensure safe and effective premises.
To carry out all aspects of maintenance work to maintain the health service premises across the estate. Install, test, commission, maintain, service and repair equipment and systems. Maintain a safe environment for service users, staff and visitors with regards to building fabric and building services.

Main duties of the job

Working under the Estates Management, you will work with other trades and colleagues to carry out planned and un-planned / emergency works. Working safely and contributing to continuous improvement towards safe systems of work, you will be a skilled, time served technician who will support the directorate in achieving its goals of being a valued partner within the Trust. You will support the directorate in providing specialist knowledge of your trade and demonstrate key personal skills with a positive attitude and key understanding of patient and clinical requirements when working in environments that need repair.
You will support the directorate and provide out of hours / on-call as a fundamental element of this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To have approved qualification to City & Guilds Level 3 standard with extensive post apprenticeship experience of working within a maintenance environment with experience of working in a multi-tasking situation
• Degree level or sufficient relevant experience to have skills in carrying out works on systems to make safe including elements of Joinery, decorating ,building and electrical minor works including fire and security systems ,hot and cold water systems boilers ,catering equipment ,heating ,air handling equipment and general plant and equipment maintenance.
•To have knowledge of NHS policies and procedures as well as Health & Safety
•To be capable of manipulating and utilizing hand tools and test appliances ensuring a high standard of craftsmanship and accuracy at all times
•To have good communication skills both verbal and written and computer skills
•Will be expected to attend a wide range of general plant breakdowns and to be able to carry out fault diagnosis and repair.
•Must be able to perform various work activities which may be of a complex demanding ,routine or non –routine nature
•    To be expected to work safely with appropriate PPE if required in various conditions including hot and cold temperatures, dirt ,dust ,and drainage systems.
•Will be required to assemble erect and install new work relative to their core skill and to perform a wide range of similar works related to other trades to an acceptable level
•To be able to use relevant portable hand tools and equipment competently and safely.
•To be able to carry out surveys on plant and equipment and building environment and fabric for deterioration as required.
•Will have responsibility to carry out open and lock up duties to any trust site to provide access for contractors or trust staff as and when required
•To carry out all works with consideration to comply with trust policies and legal requirements. To work with any local agreements already in place including any cross trade.
