Retail Catering Assistant (VIN)

Job overview

To work as a member of the Retail Catering Team to ensure that the provision of Catering Services at Victoria Infirmary for patients, visitors and staff is of the highest standard and quality. To ensure that Food Hygiene standards are adhered to and all necessary statutory requirements are met at all times

Main duties of the job

Ensure observance of Food Hygiene Legislation, Health and Safety Regulations and safe practices and procedures generally.  To maintain the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene as set out in the Catering Policy and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points plan. To complete certified food safety and hygiene training and carry out correct food safety and hygiene practices in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations. To assist in the preparation and service of retail foods and goods for patient’s, staff and visitors.  Serve customers in a polite and professional manner  ensuring all customers purchases are served to the Trust’s standards of service and presentation. To correctly dispose of all waste streams  in accordance with VIN waste disposal processes. Ensuring that all crockery, cutlery and disposable ware is clean and fit for use for food or beverage service.   To work within the retail unit at VIN.  Support, maintain and encourage effective communication, and confidentiality of information.  Carry out work in compliance with agreed Health and Safety standards. Ensure to report to line management any defective or unsafe equipment. Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines for self and others, taking action to escalate to line management any practices that cannot be carried out in accordance with task procedure or which contravenes policy. Ensure to report to line management any concern regarding customer care.

  • Experience of working in a retail catering facility and serving customers. Knowledge of food safety and food hygiene

  • Food Safety Awareness level 2. Allergen awareness knowledge. Nutrition awareness knowledge. of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
