Sustainability Officer

The Sustainability Officer will assist the Sustainability team with delivery of strategic objectives and projects outlined in the Trust Green Plan. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, they will provide support across a range of workstreams including energy, water, waste, travel and transport, procurement, green spaces and biodiversity. 

The role will include progressing stakeholder and staff engagement, maintaining sustainability communications both internally and externally using the Trust intranet, newsletters, and Teams channels. Promoting sustainable behaviour change by visiting sites, attending events, providing engagement on team away days, information sharing, and developing and supporting the sustainability champions’ network. 

Project support and delivery will be required through data collection and input for a range of metrics across environmental reporting, completion of surveys and internal audits and assisting with the preparation of reports. They will offer support to other Trust departments with Green Plan workstreams and targets and help monitor risks and issues and escalate these to the Sustainability Manager where necessary. 

This is a hybrid role, offering a flexible combination of remote and on-site working. The successful candidate will be expected to work across Trust sites as required, supporting project delivery.

The candidate’s main duties and responsibilities will include creating and maintaining communication material to promote and share the work of the Green Plan, to engage with staff on sustainability initiatives and assist with engaging teams with the actions of the Green Plan workplan.  They will assist with data collection for annual data returns, for example, the Estates Returns Information Collection (ERIC) and Premises Assurance Model (PAM); and quarterly data returns, for example, the Greener NHS Data Collection and internal reports. The candidate will also provide support with ongoing sustainability projects across the Trust which cover a range of workstreams in a variety of areas; with support ranging from attending meetings, collating and analysing data, attending sites, collaborating with colleagues and engaging staff.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country.
