Job overview

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our Retail team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. You will provide excellent customer service to patients, staff and visitors across our restaurants, cafés and coffee shops.

The role includes preparing and serving food, hot and cold drinks and barista-style coffees; operating tills and handling payments; replenishing and promoting products; and keeping service areas clean, safe and welcoming.

You will work efficiently as part of a busy team, follow food safety, hygiene, allergen, health and safety and Trust procedures, and help deliver a consistently high-quality retail catering experience.
 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a welcoming, courteous and efficient service to patients, visitors and Trust staff, responding appropriately to enquiries and referring complaints or concerns to the supervisor when required.
  • Prepare, present and serve hot and cold food, snacks and beverages in accordance with approved recipes, portion controls, allergen procedures and food safety standards.
  • Operate tills and other point-of-sale equipment accurately, process cash and electronic payments, issue receipts and follow local cash-handling, security and end-of-shift procedures.
  • Set up, replenish and maintain retail displays, counters, fridges, vending areas and condiment stations, ensuring products are attractively presented, correctly priced and available throughout service.
  • Check product dates and condition, rotate stock using first-expiry-first-out principles, record wastage accurately and report shortages, damaged goods or quality concerns promptly.
  • Receive deliveries, check quantities and product condition against documentation, store goods safely and assist with stock counts and inventory control.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in kitchens, pantries, retail outlets, restaurants and storage areas, including cleaning counters, equipment, crockery, utensils, fixtures and work surfaces in line with cleaning schedules.
