An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and compassionate senior nurse to join our leadership team. The matron post will initially be in the ED at JCUH and include the UTC at JCUH, FHN and RPCH.  

We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, safe and person-centred care, who is committed to leading and empowering teams across our General and Emergency Medicine CSU.

This role is ideal for someone ready to take the next step into senior leadership or broaden their experience.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To provide strong clinical and professional leadership and a supportive approach to Team Leaders and clinicians within the multidisciplinary team (MDT)

To be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the clinical areas

To ensure good standards of infection control, privacy and dignity, cleanliness and health and safety

To oversee and monitor the quality, timeliness and development of nursing care in accordance with all relevant professional standards

To ensure the environments in which service care and treatment is provided are fit for purpose, clean, well ordered and maintained

To ensure all nursing practice is in accordance with statutory and corporate policies, including those specific to service user care

To be responsible for the professional management of the clinical environment, ensuring the right staff with the right skills to deliver person centered nursing care, involving service users and carers

To supervise and teach registered and non-registered staff including students

To be responsible for the identification of learning development needs; to plan how these will be met and evaluate the effectiveness for learners and impact on care

To be responsible for the provision of safe staffing levels, ensuring the privacy and dignity of service users.

Leadership and Improvement Training
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff.  This training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills.  You will be expected to attend the following training sessions:

•    Service Improvement for Beginners
•    Developing your Service Improvement Skills 
•    Lean Practitioner 

The leadership and improvement programme aims to:

•    Explore leadership within the NHS
•    Promote Trust values and behaviours
•    Develop your leadership effectiveness and skills 
•    Equip staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead and complete service improvements within the scope of your role.

After you complete these six and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house and externally provided courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

  • Evidence and experience of relevant continuing professional development and developing clinical practice.
  • Recent experience and evidence of a track record of effective management of change.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Management and clinical skills with well-developed leadership, influencing skills and the ability to engage, influence and motivate.
  • Knowledge and a proven track record of recent operational and clinical nursing/ midwifery management and the ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures and ways of working.
  • Knowledge and demonstrable capability of service improvements, strategies for infection control and transformational leadership
  • Knowledge and experience of contributing to and effectively implementing the Nursing/midwifery Strategy.
  • To have a working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant subject
  • A Masters level Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • First level registered nurse/midwife
  • Evidence of recent relevant professional development
