Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and compassionate senior nurse to join our leadership team. The matron post will initially be in the ED at JCUH and include the UTC at JCUH, FHN and RPCH.
We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, safe and person-centred care, who is committed to leading and empowering teams across our General and Emergency Medicine CSU.
This role is ideal for someone ready to take the next step into senior leadership or broaden their experience.
Main duties of the job
To provide strong clinical and professional leadership and a supportive approach to Team Leaders and clinicians within the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
To be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the clinical areas
To ensure good standards of infection control, privacy and dignity, cleanliness and health and safety
To oversee and monitor the quality, timeliness and development of nursing care in accordance with all relevant professional standards
To ensure the environments in which service care and treatment is provided are fit for purpose, clean, well ordered and maintained
To ensure all nursing practice is in accordance with statutory and corporate policies, including those specific to service user care
To be responsible for the professional management of the clinical environment, ensuring the right staff with the right skills to deliver person centered nursing care, involving service users and carers
To supervise and teach registered and non-registered staff including students
To be responsible for the identification of learning development needs; to plan how these will be met and evaluate the effectiveness for learners and impact on care
To be responsible for the provision of safe staffing levels, ensuring the privacy and dignity of service users.

- Evidence and experience of positive leadership skills and the ability to transform and lead a team to work effectively together.
- Evidence and experience of relevant continuing professional development and developing clinical practice.
- Recent experience and evidence of a track record of effective management of change.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Management and clinical skills with well-developed leadership, influencing skills and the ability to engage, influence and motivate.
- Knowledge and a proven track record of recent operational and clinical nursing/ midwifery management and the ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures and ways of working.
- Knowledge and demonstrable capability of service improvements, strategies for infection control and transformational leadership
- Knowledge and experience of contributing to and effectively implementing the Nursing/midwifery Strategy.
- To have a working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or diploma in a relevant subject
- A Masters level Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
- First level registered nurse/midwife
- Evidence of recent relevant professional development
Desirable criteria
- To hold or be working towards MSc or relevant post-graduation qualification
