Band 6 Sister – Transitional Care - Neonatal Services 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced neonatal nurse to join our team as a Band 6 Sister. This Monday to Friday role offers a fantastic opportunity for an established Sister or a staff nurse with at least five years of neonatal experience to step into a leadership position and further develop their skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the team, ensuring high standards of care, and contributing to the smooth running of the unit.

A strong focus of this post will be on Quality Improvement (QI), making it ideal for someone with a keen interest in driving positive change and enhancing patient outcomes. You’ll be supported by a collaborative and forward-thinking team, and have the chance to lead and contribute to QI initiatives that align with our service goals. Main duties of the job

  • Support newly appointed band 4 team and help to develop their role
  • Improve family experience
  • Start working on changes to develop a modern service that is proactive and adaptive. 
  • Build on existing SOP's and guidelines. 
  • Support existing band 5 team and develop their roles. 
  • Ensure that high quality standards are maintained in terms of IPC and clinical practice.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience of working on a Neonatal Unit
  • Post registration experience of working on a TCU
  • Experience of working in a multicultural work place with a diverse client group.
  • Experience of working within an MDT and providing advocacy for colleagues and patients
  • Experience of supporting junior colleagues
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading a small team

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills
  • Competency in IV Skills
  • Ability to coordinate the day to day running of a busy neonatal unit when called upon
  • Ability to utilise research and accepted best practice in order to enhance clinical practice
  • Skilled at diplomatically challenging unsatisfactory practice with the aim of achieving a positive outcome for all
  • Able to support initiation of breastfeeding or expressing
  • IT skills – Ability to word process and utilise spreadsheets

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN, RN Child, RM or RN Adult
  • ENB 998, SLIP or practice supervisor/assessor training. Or equivalent comparable experience of providing high quality education to colleagues, students and families
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 405, Diploma in Special and Intensive Care of the Newborn or equivalent * (Or current enrolment on the “QIS “ course – completing within 6 months of appointment)
  • Current New-born Life Support (If you do not possess this you must be committed to completing this within 6 months of appointment)
