Job overview
This is an exciting new opportunity to join the Research and Evaluation Division in Public Health Wales, Research & Evaluation Fellow. The post holder will help develop and shape a robust programme of evaluation of complex public health interventions and programmes using appropriate methodologies for process and outcome evaluations.
You will have a proven track record in evaluation, including working across the full evaluation project lifecycle from scoping, theory development, evaluation design, data collection, analysis, synthesis, reporting and dissemination. You will be experienced in managing evaluation of complex public health projects in real world settings, balancing methodological rigour with operational and policy realities. This includes adapting evaluation approaches to changing stakeholder priorities, delivery contexts, evidence needs, and constraints related to data, timescales or resources.
This role sits within a supportive and multi-disciplinary team, embedded within a Directorate with a strong focus on evidence, data and data science in public health. The successful candidate will bring an aptitude to problem solve, and be motivated by delivering robust evidence to inform action and make a difference to population health.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will bring strong mixed methods expertise and extensive experience evaluating complex public health programmes, policies and interventions. They will be highly skilled in qualitative methods to explore implementation, context, mechanisms of change and stakeholder experiences, alongside applied quantitative methods such as large-scale surveys, routine and linked data analysis, quasi-experimental approaches and outcome evaluation designs.
We are looking for an exceptional evaluator, who can navigate complexity and uncertainty, build consensus across competing priorities, translate evidence into actionable insights, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
If you would like to discuss the role please contact the Evaluation Team at [email protected]
As part of this role, there will be a requirement to work 1-2 days per month from our Cardiff office. Additional attendance may be required, for example, for key meetings, training, events, or to support service delivery. Applicants should ensure they are able to meet this requirement. Office attendance expectations may be reviewed in line with organisational and service needs
