Job overview

This job is based across two separate sites, West Berkshire Community Hospital (Thatcham) and Wokingham Hospital (Wokingham). The successful candidate will work 14 hours per week across 2 shifts; Monday 23:59 – 08:00, and Saturday 18:00 – 23:59. 

Please note the job is an overnight position, please do not apply if overnights aren’t suitable for you. 

Please note the above location for all roles can be changed at short notice, you must be able to travel to Newbury or Wokingham. 

Our friendly and experienced team is currently looking to recruit a Driver to support our clinical staff in our GP out of hour’s service. 

The post holder will work as part of an out of hours operational team chauffeuring and supporting medical staff to undertake home visits in the effective and efficient delivery of a high quality out of hours service to NHS Berkshire West.  

The post will include supporting medical staff to undertake some clinical tasks.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will as part of their role:

  • Drive medical staff to home visits in a safe and timely manner  
  • Maintain effective communication with dispatching staff   
  • Ensure all medical bags and equipment are stowed at the beginning of each duty session and assist medical staff with locating bags and equipment 
  • Follow the service’s operational procedures for checking vehicles before the beginning of each duty session including fuel, water, and oil levels. Complete data entries. Handover vehicles to oncoming drivers with sufficient fuel and in a clean and tidy condition internally 
  • Work as part of a team supporting and assisting qualified staff with patient care within the Urgent Care setting

  • Flexibility with working hours/days including evenings, overnights, weekends, bank holidays and Christmas/Easter festive periods  
  • Computer literate with an ability to navigate common systems and software including internet and email

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Valid Manual Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to GCSE C grade English and Maths or equivalent qualification
  • Advanced Driving Certificate or equivalent

Training

  • Basic Life Support

Previous Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a health care setting
  • Experience in a customer-based environment
  • Broad range of work experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to map read/operate satellite navigation systems.
  • Computer literate with an ability to navigate common systems and software including internet and email.
