Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking Tissue Viability Nurse to join our specialist Tissue Viability Team (within the Harm Free Care team).

We are seeking a highly skilled clinician, who is passionate about improving patient outcomes, preventing avoidable harm and promoting excellence in wound care across the organisation.

At BHRUT we approach Harm Free care holistically and you will work proactively with colleagues across the MDT to promote the provision of Harm Free Care to our patient population.

As a Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse, you will provide expert advice and leadership on all aspects of tissue viability, pressure ulcer prevention, wound management, and skin integrity. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care and contribute to the strategic development of the service.

The team has a track record of innovation, for example actively diagnosing and treating venous leg ulcers in the acute setting,  and will welcome candidates who can continue to drive patient focused service transformation.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to support the Harm Free Care agendas with a specific interest in Tissue Viability. The post holder will help take these agendas forward by helping conduct clinical audit, analyse the data and develop action plans to improve the service offered to our patients at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post holder will be part of the multi professional team and will act as a resource to the team to provide accurate, up to date information, advice and support regarding Tissue
Viability.

The post holder will be instrumental in the development of training/education packages and the delivery of this training/education, as well as the investigation of Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers (HAPU) using the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF)methodology, and supporting clinical areas in improvement plans.

Working with the Lead Nurse Harm Free care, the post holder will aid the development and revision of Harm Free Care related policies/guidelines, clinical benchmarking, clinical audit and associated reports,  in particular around Tissue Viability.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
