Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Support Worker to work in St Marks Dee View Surgery, Connah's Quay. This practice is currently being managed by the Local Health Board.
Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous. Knowledge of the EMIS clinical system is desirable, however training can be given.
Main duties of the job
The role will assist the GPs and Practice Nursing Team on a daily basis and duties will include phlebotomy, dressings, ECG’s, health advice and checks, treatment room duties, urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.
The position is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and suitable references.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Welsh and / or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- NVQ Level 3 or working towards this or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- HCA course specific to general practice
- Up to date basic life support training
- ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working under indirect supervision
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working in a general practice
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role of the health care assistant
- Clinical skills and competency relevant to the role e.g. Phlebotomy experience
- Standard keyboard skills
- Able to make judgements where there is more than a straightforward choice of options, e.g. new patient health checks, urinalysis etc.
- Understand issues regarding accountability and delegation
- Ability to communicate effectively via face to face, telephone or group discussion
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proven customer care skills
Desirable criteria
- Following appropriate education and training has the ability to undertake the administration of influenza both intramuscular and intranasal, pneumococcal vaccine and shingles vaccine.
- Also the administration of hydroxocobalamine (vitamin B12) injections
