Deputy Foundation School Director, YHFS - West Yorkshire

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

In November 2022 the Foundation School became the new Foundation Directorate. The Foundation Directorate is led by the Foundation School Director/Deputy Dean (FSD/DD), supported by a Deputy Foundation School Director (DFSD) for each region and a dedicated administrative Programme Support team, based in the Hull office.

An exciting senior clinical faculty opportunity has arisen within the Yorkshire and Humber Foundation School for the role of Deputy Foundation School Director. The successful candidate will join the existing Foundation School Team and assume responsibility for the West Yorkshire region. This post will initially be for 3 years, with a review to extend this post at the end of that term.

If you would like more information about this role, please arrange to speak with either Umakanth Kempanna or Sue Reid in person, by phone or on MS Teams

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the Foundation School Director / Deputy Dean (FSD/DD) and aided by the existing two Deputy Foundation School Directors (DFSD's), the West Yorkshire DFSD will be responsible for strategic direction, quality management, faculty development and external stakeholder relations for YHFS, primarily working with the Programme Support Team, the Local Education Providers (LEPs) and Leeds Medical School.

Each Deputy Foundation School Director (DFSD) is given direct line management responsibility for a percentage of the YHFS training placements and Foundation trainees, divided by region. The DFSD will be supported by named Clinical Supervisors (CSs), Educational Supervisors (ESs), Foundation Training Programme Directors (TPD's) and Foundation Administrators who are LEP based.

The DFSD will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.  There may be occasions when the post holder has to deputise for the FSD/DD at national or local meetings.

There are a number of specific administrative functions that the YHFS deliver that require either FSD/DD or DFSD leadership (examples of these are given in the appendix 1 at the end of the attached Job Description/Person Specification) and these responsibilities are shared equally within the team.
