The Musculoskeletal Service Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin brings together partner organisations across the county, including; Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals and the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, to provide quality care to patients with musculoskeletal concerns within the population of Shropshire. This post would be suitable for a dynamic individual who is enthusiastic and motivated to continue their professional development. This will be supported through access to a wealth of knowledge and experience in the form of consultants, GP’s with special interest, as well as clinicians with special interests.

Through job plans and CPD programmes as well as opportunities to access apprenticeships and funding, this is the perfect role for clinicians with a vision for enhancing their knowledge and skills in the field of Musculoskeletal disorder management.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage, assess and treat own highly specialist caseload of complex musculoskeletal patients in clinic as an autonomous practitioner within scope of the role.
  • To triage and assess referrals into the service to determine acuity and urgency, and direct to the appropriate clinical team within the service. 
  • The post holder will work as a highly experienced autonomous practitioner to perform advanced assessment including requesting and interpretation of appropriate diagnostics for patients with diverse presentations.
  • To use expert clinical reasoning to provide a diagnosis and then develop, deliver and adapt individualised treatment programmes for patients within a specialist clinical area.
  • To have developed, through extensive experience and postgraduate training, the expert knowledge and specialist clinical skills.
  • To lead in the development of own expert service introducing innovative change and improvements liaising with the AMD, CSM, assistant CSM and Therapies Lead to ensure a cohesive approach.
  • To undertake research and audit projects as a regular part of the role and to critically evaluate current research and apply where appropriate to practice.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GP / Doctor
  • Post graduate qualification in Musculoskeletal
  • Experience in management of Musculoskeletal disorders
  • GMC Registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To be spending at least one session a week undertaking general practice
  • Significant experience as a GP or Dr working in T&O/MSK Service
  • Experience in investigation techniques

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a multi-professional team
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Competence in teaching and training other health care professionals and a commitment to cascading knowledge and skills
