Job overview
To supervise and support the daily operations of the Eating HUB, Delights Deli Bar, and wider catering services at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This includes ensuring the efficient serving of meals, upholding high food safety standards and accurate record keeping.
The role contributes to the production of approximately 1,600 patient meals daily, serving around 700 customers in the restaurant, and delivering 13,000 hospitality covers annually.
The post holder will prepare and cook meals to high standards, maintain a clean and safe working environment, and directly supervise Restaurant, Hospitality, and Vending staff.
A key part of the role is to ensure excellent service delivery to all customers while supporting the department in meeting income and budgetary targets.
Main duties of the job
- Prepare and cook meals in line with food hygiene, health and safety regulations, and dietary requirements.
- Supervise all aspects of food production.
- Oversee food service operations, maintaining high standards of portion control, food presentation and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure the correct and safe operation of catering equipment at all times, reporting faults promptly.
- Ensure all catering equipment is thoroughly cleaned and safe to use before the start of the next shift.
- Ensure that environmental cleaning of all service and production areas, including floors, surfaces and equipment is carried out in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and by telephone.
- Take responsibility for supervising the department in the absence of the designated person in charge.
- Report any discrepancies related to the receipt and distribution of catering supplies to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Plan and organise own workload effectively, using initiative to manage day-to-day tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Record and report data on food service matters, including recipe usage, wastage, and feedback.
- Follow standardised planning to ensure consistency, quality, and cost-effective use of resources.
- Maintain accurate records in line with departmental and Trust requirements.
