Job Summary

Are you an experienced housekeeping or domestic services professional who is ready to take the next step into a visible team leadership role? We are looking for a motivated and organised Housekeeping / Domestic Team Leader to support the delivery of high-quality cleanliness, housekeeping and patient meal service standards across Moseley Hall Hospital and West Heath Hospital.

Working closely with, and deputising for, the Band 5 Housekeeping Manager, you will help coordinate day-to-day domestic and housekeeping services, support staff allocation, monitor standards and provide practical leadership to ensure safe, clean and welcoming environments for patients, visitors and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role within the housekeeping and domestic services team. You will support the  Housekeeping Manager in the effective coordination of services, helping to ensure that cleaning schedules, patient meal service requirements, safe staffing levels and quality standards are maintained across the sites.

You will provide visible, hands-on leadership to domestic and housekeeping staff, supporting daily operational priorities, responding to service issues and helping the team deliver a responsive patient-focused service seven days per week. In the absence of the Housekeeping Manager, you will deputise as required, escalating risks and issues appropriately while maintaining service continuity.

 Key responsibilities include:

·       Supervising, supporting and motivating domestic and housekeeping staff to deliver safe, effective and high-quality services.

·       Supporting compliance with NHS Cleanliness Standards, infection prevention requirements, food service standards and local operating procedures.

·       Coordinating daily work allocations, rotas, cleaning schedules and service priorities to maintain business continuity.

·       Undertaking quality checks, supporting audit activity and helping to address areas for improvement in cleanliness and patient meal service delivery.

·       Deputising for the  Housekeeping Manager when required, including supporting staff queries, resolving day-to-day issues and escalating concerns appropriately.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main responsibilities

  • To provide line management for the Housekeeping Supervisors and their teams.
  • To undertake return to work meetings, sickness reviews, PDR’s and 1:1 appraisal within the housekeeping and domestic services in line with Trust Policies, ensuring the Healthroster and ESR are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • To promote a safe working environment within Housekeeping, ensuring the safe use and storage of all equipment, materials, and chemicals.
  • To organise the working rota for the housekeeping supervisory team on Health Roster.
  • To ensure that all the housekeeping / domestic teams are trained in food safety, allergens, special diets, textured modified meals, nutrition and hydration.
  • To undertake food service audits to check that HACCP (hazard analysis critical control point) documentation has been completed in line with Trust Policy and Legislation and to take corrective action for non-compliance.
  • To provide assurance and governance around audits of all clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Liaise with clinical and non-clinical teams regarding the standard of cleanliness of their areas.
  • To ensure a daily hand over is conducted with any presenting issues being escalated to the housekeeping manager.
  • Ensure close liaison with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the seamless delivery of facilities services.
  • Oversee technical cleaning audits and rectifications to ensure any failures are rectified in a timely manner.
  • Responsibility for overseeing spot checks on how the teams clean, cleanliness of the environment including cleaning cupboards and equipment.

Person specification

Qualifications/ Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent
  • ILM Level 3 or equivalent leadership qualification
  • NVQ Level 2 in British Institute of Cleaning in Domestic Services or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of leadership and managing a team
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant experience of using Microsoft Programmes

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant knowledge of Food Safety/Food Service including temperature control Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points HACCP
  • Significant experience of Health & Safety, including COSHH and Safe Systems of Cleaning

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to be proactive and think dynamically
Desirable criteria
  • Flexible approach with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage conflict and contentious situations where negotiation skills may be necessary
