Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory (WMRGL), to join our busy EpIQ admin team dealing with referrals that require specialist testing at other laboratories and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS). 

The WMRGL is the designated Genomic Laboratory Hub working with the Genomic Local Laboratory Network (GLLN) for the Wessex, Oxford and West Midlands Genomics Consortium (WWMGC) to create a world class Genomics Laboratory service. 

The GLHs are an integral part of the national Genomic Medicine Service providing state of the art, high quality genomic analysis to patients with rare disease and/or cancer. The pace of change is exponential, with Genomics being placed at the heart of the future NHS.  

 

This post is primarily office based but you may be required to occasionally work in the laboratory. After training is complete flexible and remote working arrangements may be possible. 

If you have experience within the NHS of Microsoft Office packages and databases, of providing administration support to a clinical team, have excellent verbal and written skills, the ability to prioritise and work under pressure and are a conscientious team worker, then we would like to hear from you.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide administration support to the EpIQ hub within the Genetics Laboratory and will co-ordinate the Whole Genome Sequencing referral process. This will invole acting as a point of contact for all new referrals contacting the service. To consistently monitor and track all referrals into the service to ensure that they are appropriately directed and to provide high quality administrative cover to the EpIQ hub. 

The post holder will need to be able to communicate clearly and concisely with clinicial colleagues, using the departmental email accounts, to ensure the effective management of referrals and patient information.  

The post holder will be responsible for inputting appropriate information onto the local databases, inputting referrals onto national test ordering management system and maintaining spreadsheets/databases, inputting information and ensuring that all information is accurately recorded.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSA word processing level II/III & CLAIT or equivalent experience
  • Diploma in Business Administration (or equivalent) or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • AMSPAR or equivalent qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive secretarial and administrative experience.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining office systems particularly databases
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of working independently and using own initiative
  • Extensive NHS experience and understanding of healthcare
  • Experience of calculating simple statistics
  • Maintaining good working relationships across a range of staff levels both internally and externally
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive situations and information
