Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive and highly organised individual to undertake the role of  a Paediatric Administration Phlebotomist.

If you are a motivated individual with excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a busy team, then this could be the perfect role for you.

Your aim would be to assist with the delivery of a Phlebotomy Service in our outpatient departments and in various clinics across the community. You will also be supporting staff to enable them to continue to provide high standards of care to  all of our patients and any service user.

We are looking for a highly skilled paediatric phlebotomist  who will be able to provide front line care to our hospital in patients, outpatients, community clinics, GP surgeries and to any one of our Mental Health clinics.

We would welcome applications from candidates who do not hold level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor qualification as this could be offered during employment

Main duties of the job

-Follow all Health and Safety procedures (as instructed) to ensure the safety of the patient and phlebotomist at all times.

-Follow all necessary procedures to ensure that the patient is correctly identified before proceeding with blood taking. 

-Ensure the correct documentation is used and completed according to Trust policies and Phlebotomy standard operating procedures.

-To attend relevant courses related to paediatrics and to keep in date with current procedures and policies as well as any courses that is relevant to the phlebotomy role.

-Ensure the safe disposal of blood samples and materials according to Trust Health and Safety protocols.

-Adopt a patient friendly manner that promotes confidence in the patient and carer(s) and causes as little anxiety as possible while blood is being taken.

Essential criteria
  • Patient care and the ability to communicate with the public.
  • Proven paediatric experience
  • Capillary venous sample collection.
  • Experience in clinical areas of hospital.

Experience

  • Must have gained GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • NVQ level 3 in phlebotomy or equivalent. L3 Leadership/ Customer Care course or working towards.
  • Access course to Health or equivalent.
  • ECDL or working towards.
  • Full driving license.
  • Competent in using Unity, ICE and System1.
  • Leadership/ Customer Care course or working towards.
