We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to become our Grounds & Garden Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

Main duties:

  • To provide an effective interface between the Senior Estates Manager and the outsourced Grounds & Gardens Maintenance and to be responsible for ensuring the Contractor performs to the required standards through effective Contract Monitoring.
  • To work as an integral member of a small team delivering efficient and effective Grounds & Gardens (including landscape and horticultural) Maintenance Services to various Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • To be responsible for the day to day management of the Grounds and Gardens Maintenance Service planned maintenance service for defined Trust sites ensuring pre-agreed performance criteria are met.
  • To provide an effective interface between the Senior Estates Manager and the outsourced Grounds & Gardens Maintenance and to be responsible for ensuring the Contractor performs to the required standards through effective Contract Monitoring.
  • Working with Senior Facilities Manager, to co-ordinate activity, reduce cost and improve efficiency wherever possible.
  • Working with the Senior Facilities Manager to establish best practice and efficient working procedures.
  • To monitor the performance of the outsourced Grounds and Gardens Maintenance Service.
  • To participate in the planning of landscape/horticultural scheme to include elements of planting, maintenance, and life cycle.
  • To work as an integral member of a small team delivery efficient and effective Grounds and Gardens (including landscape and horticultural) Maintenance Services to various Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust sites.
  • Assist where and when required with General Maintenance tasks across SSL’s multi site portfolio.

Person specification

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Qualification in Landscape and / or Horticulture, (Diploma / NVQ Level III)
  • Qualified in the use of horticultural equipment, e.g., chemical application, (PA1,2,6) chainsaws etc

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant, in-depth, demonstrable knowledge of and experience in grounds & Gardens (and including landscape & horticultural) Maintenance and effective supervision, monitoring and delivering of such.
  • Demonstrable experience in report writing.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing budgets.
  • Demonstrable experience in effective application and use of computerised software packages.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience allied to working on sites with people who suffer Mental Health related problems

SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable track record of effective supervision of staff and contracts.
  • Demonstrable ability effectively manage teams of staff and contractors
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for working with Trust colleagues and supply chain tier members.
  • Demonstrable trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
  • Able to evaluate, review, assess and propose situations as well as data and information.
  • Able to work with high level of initiative.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise own workload and work of staff and contractors responsible for.
  • Ability to deliver high service standards through effective performance management of staff and contractors

  • Ability to use computers and computer packages to produce reports and commitment accounting records weekly / monthly and as required.

OTHER

Essential criteria
  • Helpful, co-operative, conscientious, committed to the effective and efficient running of the Directorate and service delivery.
  • Able to in all areas of a Mental Health environment (including forensic and secure environments)
  • Clean Driving Licence

  • Aptitude for self-development, proactive with regards to new technology and working practices.
