Support Service Supervisor - Catering

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

The post holder will be responsible:
To supervise all aspects of the catering service at ward level with the responsibility of ensuring a high-quality catering service to patients.

Main duties of the job
1. To organise the work of catering staff in all ward areas.

2. To ensure that the ward areas are adequately staffed, and that the most economic use is made of available manpower and other resources.

3. To arrange work rotas and allocate staff to them.
|
4. To participate in the selection and recruitment of staff.
|
5. To complete the local Induction and training of all new staff and refresher training of current staff on the correct methods of operating and cleaning of all equipment within their remit.
|
6. To carry out first line management of grievances and disciplinary matters. |
|
7. To ensure that all staff follow the allocated breaks times as per Working Time Directive and service requirements of wards. |
8. To be responsible for ensuring that the correct stock levels are maintained in ward kitchens. |
9. To carry out audits on ward kitchen areas and the catering service, eg. waste food audits, ward service audits, ward kitchen audits and ward pantry audits.

10. To exercise quality control over all catering areas to ensure the highest quality of service.

Working for our organisation
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Post holder should possess Basic Food Hygiene Certificate at commencement of employment and be willing to progress to Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
