We are committed to equality and diversity within our workforce.
Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 nurse to join our well established and supportive community team.
We care for respiratory patients in their place of residence and in clinics within Sandwell.
A main part of our work is admission avoidance and you would be part of a team the responded to urgent referrals and assessed and treated patients with the aim of avoiding an admission to hopsital.
We care for patients with asthma, COPD, bronchectasis and fibrosis. We hold oxygen and spirometry clinics and pulmonary rehab classes across the Sandwell borough. The post holder will be required to work on a rota basis to cover weekends and bank holidays. The post holder will require access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist clinical skills of a band 6 nurse within a multi-disciplinary team. To provide specialist assessment and treatment to patients with respiratory disease within a community setting.
To work independently as an experienced and competent health care professional who will work with others to provide clinical care to those with long term respiratory conditions, enabling individuals to remain in their place of residence.
Work collaboratively and co-operatively within a multidisciplinary respiratory team to meet the needs of patients and their families.
Be responsible for assessment, treatment and appropriate admissions contributing to the safe management of patients within the community.
To actively participate in clinical professional development by way of regular training, support, clinical reasoning and peer review.
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
Provide respiratory expertise to colleagues, patients and carers through specialist advice and education.
Assist in providing clinical leadership to Band 5 nurses, physiotherapists, and respiratory support workers within the speciality through supervision, education and service development.
Participate in evidence-based audit and research projects to further practice, making and acting upon recommendations for changes in practice to improve service delivery including the formulation and implementation of the service protocols.
Working for our organisation
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.
We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.
Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.
Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.
We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded.
