Job overview

There has never been a more exciting  time to join the pharmacy team  at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust as the handover of our brand new Pharmacy Aseptic and Clinical Trials Facility is expected later in the summer.

With a thriving research portfolio and a commitment to innovation, we are seeking an experienced and forward thinking Pharmacist to join our award winning pharmacy  team.

This is a pivotal leadership role, supporting the safe and effective delivery of clinical trials across oncology, haematology and other specialties. 

You will also provide support for cancer services and oversee the delivery  of services from the new clinical trials facility 

You will join an experienced senior management team and you will be supported in your role by a team of skilled and friendly colleagues.

 

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide leadership and operational management for Clinical Trials  services at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.  

The post holder will ensure:

Forward planning and development and implementation of  service improvement strategies,

The delivery of a patient focused, high quality and efficient  service

Performance against national and local targets/key performance indicators,

Financial planning, budgetary control and delivery of cost savings,

Line management and development of  staff.

The post holder will act as a professional lead for staff within the Pharmacy Clinical Trials  Service.  This will involve providing professional oversight of the training, education and development needs of the  workforce as well as identifying opportunities for further development.

The post holder will be joining and working in a large and progressive pharmacy department, which delivers near patient ward pharmacy services, has automated dispensing, electronic medicines management and has implemented electronic prescribing across the majority of the organisation.  The pharmacy department has close links with the  Schools of Pharmacy at Wolverhampton University, University of Birmingham and Aston University with members of staff holding joint appointments, and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate students and learning beyond registration.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters (or equivalent) degree in pharmacy
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and/or or other relevant qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Formal leadership or management qualification
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working at a senior level in clinical trials or cancer services
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Understanding of regulatory and ethical frameworks governing IMPs
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing organisational change and re-designing services.
  • Experience of supervising, training and assessing staff
  • Experience with working as an authorised pharmacist in an aseptic unit
