CLINICAL FELLOW CT 1/2 LEVEL IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDICS

(FULL TIME)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for CT1/2 level posts as Clinical Fellows at the highly esteemed Trauma and Orthopaedic team at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. Commencing August 2026, this full time 6 months post with room to extend for 12 months, this provides the opportunity to work in a varied and challenging clinical role.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

Working as part of a teamwork across both the elective and trauma teams to deliver:

  • Managing all ward based medical aspects of patient care in trauma and elective orthopaedics
  • On-Call including involvement in major trauma calls at a tertiary trauma centre
  • Prepare the trauma lists and help the trauma morning meetings when on call
  • Opportunity to do supervised days in theatre and outpatient clinic working.

The routine administrative content of this post e.g. the day-to-day running of your team’s workload, sending patients, writing to General Practitioners etc. is allowed for in the timetable.

It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within the department. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training.

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC, with a license to practice.
Desirable criteria
  • MRCS or working towards a MRCS or equivalent
  • ATLS

Work Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent Experience and familiarity with UK Hospital Systems and practices or equivalent
  • Evidence of training progression
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in Orthopaedics
  • At least 6 months experience at SHO level
  • Not more than 4 years experience as SHO
  • Evidence of Postgraduate activities
  • Interest in pursuing a career in surgery or A&E

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Competent in history taking and examination skills
  • Willing to and knows when to seek appropriate help from senior colleagues
  • Able to produce clear and concise notes
  • Evidence of knowledge of speciality

Personal Quality/Special Circumstances

Essential criteria
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post including oncall commitments
  • Able to communicate effectively with patient and relatives
  • Able to establish good working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team
