Microvascular Surgery Clinical Fellow post (SpR / ST6+ Level) in Lower Limb Reconstruction

We wish to appoint a 2x Clinical Microsurgical Fellow - Specialty Registrar Level in Plastic Surgery with a special interest in lower limb and microsurgery in general.  1x post will commence on February 2025 for a 6 month fixed term contract. 1x post will commence August 2025 for 6 months.

Expectations of the position - The successful candidate will be in year 7 / 8 of plastic surgery training (or equivalent), have passed FRCS (Plast) or equivalent and will have special interest in microsurgery reflected in the application form.

The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in teaching and to undertake clinical audit projects. The successful candidate will be expected to attend specialist clinics in ortho – plastic surgery.

This post is recognised for training by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Plastic Surgery and has Royal College Approval.

Candidates must have GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. It is essential that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.

Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 7 years postgraduate experience including 2 years as SHO in an approved training post, or equivalent. Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential.
  • Training in diagnosis and treatment of complex reconstruction conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Some training in Microsurgery

Training, Audit & Management

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
  • Experience in audit project and written up

Research, Teaching & Publications

Essential criteria
  • Proven teaching ability.
Desirable criteria
  • Proven track record in research
  • Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS FRCS.
  • ATLS
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC, with a licence to practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
