Job overview

This post is an opportunity for a Full Time Registered Dental Nurse to join a multidisciplinary team and support the speciality to ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care.  

The successful candidate will be a Registered Dental nurse interested in developing the service to our patients. We would welcome any applications for this Band 5 role from those with 2 years post qualification experience in Dental Nursing and hold a recognised specialised post registration qualification such as Dental Sedation Nursing, Orthodontic Dental Nursing or Oral Health Education. 

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and a compassionate nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help us to deliver outstanding treatment and care to our patients.  

This is a great opportunity for you to develop and expand your skills as a dental nurse to the next level. 

You will assist in our orthodontics, restorative and specialised clinics such as MDT clinic, as well as oral surgery clinics, day surgery theatre list, minor oral surgery operations and nurse led clinics.  

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job; 

  • Provide a high level of dental nursing care throughout the department. This will include patients with special needs, vulnerable children and adults, the elderly, mentally and physically disabled patients, patients suffering from terminal illness, infectious risk, medically compromised, anxious/phobic patients and people with challenging behaviour. 

  • Deliver a high standard of chairside assistance across the whole range of dental specialities within the department, supporting all grades of clinicians. Maintaining high standards of infection control throughout. 

  • The post holder will be expected to be adaptable to perform these duties and be able to work flexibly across the Trust sites.

Essential criteria
  • NEBDN Certificate of Dental Nursing or NVQ 3 Dental Nursing Certificate
  • NEBDN or recognised post qualification in any of the following
  • Conscious Sedation Oral Health Education Orthodontic Dental Nursing Special Care Dental Nursing Implant Nursing Radiography
  • GDC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant Experience and knowledge of wide range of dental procedures including
  • Sedation
  • Orthodontics
  • Oral Surgery
  • Restorative Dentistry
  • Oral Health Education
  • Special Care Dentistry
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in Hospital setting
  • ILS (Intermediate Life Support) trained
  • Experience using Intra-Oral Scanner

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of Infection control and decontamination procedures
  • Able to manage own workload without supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and members of the multi-disciplinary team in English
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
  • Computer skills including the use of PACS. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to caring for patients
  • High level of interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Evidence of up-to-date CPD
  • Good time management skills
  • Prior experience of coaching/mentoring peers and carrying out 1:1’s
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act
