Technical Specialist - Medical Devices Decontamination

Job overview
A Technical Specialist - providing oversight management and technical expertise for clients in the areas where decontamination of re-usable medical devices is carried out e.g., Sterile Services Units, Endoscopy Departments, Hospital Wards, ITU's, OPD's, Operating Theatres, Podiatry and Dental services. Additionally - Required to deliver accredited decontamination Training and Education Programmes nationally to the healthcare sector, in the areas of decontamination of reusable medical devices. The post holder will ensure that all work is carried out to the highest possible standard and at all times work within the guidelines laid out in the AVM quality system and procedures manual so as to fulfil the Trust’s overall objectives.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to act as the Authorised Person (Decontamination) for installed decontamination equipment, as defined by Department of Health guidelines at various NHS Trusts, Private Healthcare Establishments and Commercial Organisations.
The post holder will ensure that all work is carried out to the highest possible standard at all times and to work within the guidelines laid out in the AVM quality system and procedures manual so as to fulfil the Trust’s overall objectives; all work will be carried 3 out in compliance with statutory / legislative requirements and other local / national NHS standards and guidelines. This will include NHS Technical Memoranda, Health Building Notes, International, European and British Standards etc.
The post holder will be responsible for the technical control of the installed decontamination equipment and will have the autonomy and freedom to manage delegated projects within strict statutory / legislative guidelines.
Provide technical support and expert guidance with respect to decontamination equipment which will include trend analysis of critical data.

- Able to undertake HTM2010, CFPP, 2030 and 2031 validation tests or equivalent
- Communication with senior staff responsible for decontamination

- Worked within a hospital/healthcare environment or for a third party providing validation and/or servicing.
- Working as an electro/mechanical service engineer

- Writing and authorising permits for decontamination equipment will be required and this will involve carrying the responsibility for any poor decisions which could potentially result in serious injury or financial loss
- Emotionally demanding aspects of the job will include pressure on times to meet conflicting demands of the work; operational pressures from clinical and non-clinical requirements will impact upon decisions made
- Concentration will be required for long periods of time - especially when dealing with unforeseen circumstances where the ability to make decisions quickly, to deal with them and be confident in the decision taken will be key
