Job overview

You will carry out work of routine and non-routine nature as directed by management. 

Ensure compliance with Trust Safety Standard and Procedures. 

Taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

Each Gardener will have individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service and will ensure that their contribution is beneficial to other departments within the Trust, as well as the Estates and Facilities Department to fulfill the Trust’s overall objectives.

Main duties of the job

•    Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his trade    without supervision.

•    Painting and decorating all hospital property, internally and externally, to acceptable craft standards and using approved methods of working.

•    Prepare working area in an efficient and organised manner.  Removal of all furniture, fittings and fixtures and re-fixing on completion.

•    Wallpapering (including contract wide width), varnishing, wall washing, application of spray applied finishes

•    Carry out minor wall repairs such as patch plastering

•    Grouting and repairing wall tiles, including using sealants

•    Transportation and erection of scaffolding and access equipment.

•    Understand fully the inter-relationship between Building and Engineering trades.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Apprenticeship or other recognised & relevant approved training. Trained to NVQ level 2 or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Other relevant training, such as: Working at Height, Asbestos Awareness, CSCS card, PLASMA, IPAF.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post apprenticeship experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a hospital.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good all round trade knowledge.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Must have good craft skills.
  • Good front of house skills.
  • Can work with minimum supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • People- and team management skills in previous supervisor or team leader roles.
