MND Care Centre Coordinator (Cambridge) Band 7

Applications are invited from highly experienced Nurses or Allied Health Professionals (e.g. Speech and Language therapists, Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists) for a 4 year post in the role of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Care Centre Coordinator, Cambridge.  You will be working with the current MND Care Centre Coordinators to coordinate the MND clinic and develop the MND service.

Main duties of the job

You will responsible for facilitating coordination of services for this rapidly progressive and fatal neurological condition and includes the running of the hospital based multidisciplinary clinic service and weekly Thursday morning MDT clinic in the Arthur Rank Hospice. The role involves collaborative working with a broad range of health professionals across health care and voluntary sectors to improve care for people affected by MND.

You will be required to have excellent communication skills with an ability to deal with highly sensitive discussions and distressing circumstances in the proactive management of this life limiting condition.

The Coordinator (Alongside the Care Centre Director) is responsible for delivering the objectives agreed in the grant awarded by the Motor Neurone Disease Association over its four-year award period. The Care Centre (established 2004) is part of the MND Care Centre programme supported by the MND Association and is a regional hub for engagement in MND research.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification in social work, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics or similar and registered with professional body.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with people with people with neurological illness in a hospital and/or a community setting.
  • Experience of liaison with a wide variety of other professionals.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and contentious issues in a professional manner.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of audit and research and its application to / uses in practice.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to teach in both formal and informal settings
  • Ability to prioritise and organise own workload
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literacy
  • Some knowledge of monitoring of service delivery
