This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be employed as an Occupational Therapist (wellbeing practitioner) in the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service at CUH.  Based in the multidisciplinary Staff Wellbeing Team, you will provide both “upstream” health promoting advice and education and “downstream” vocational rehabilitation support to CUH staff.  You will do this through a combination of 1:1 assessment, training, groupwork and development of written resources. 

The Staff Wellbeing Team works to improve the health and wellbeing of CUH staff by empowering, supporting and educating.  The occupational therapist will bring an understanding of occupation, functioning and vocational rehabilitation and apply this to CUH staff.

Main duties of the job

Undertake workplace functional assessment of employees including those with diverse or complex presentations of various health conditions

Use occupational therapy clinical reasoning skills, environmental and psychosocial assessment techniques to determine the implications on work performance and productivity 

To provide occupational therapy informed advice to management and employees on matters relating to occupational health, particularly the prevention of illness and the maintenance and improvement of health and well-being.  This includes recommendations to support individuals to remain well in work or return to work following a sickness absence, considering the match between the individual’s abilities and the job role/tasks

Lead on health promotion and education activities across the Trust

Facilitate groups and training sessions on topics relevant to workplace health and well-being

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • B.Sc. Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate training or qualification in a relevant area e.g. occupational therapy, psychological approach, ergonomics, vocational rehabilitation
  • Coaching training/qualification
  • Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Membership of other relevant professional organisations such as the Vocational Rehabilitation Association or Society of Occupational Medicine

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of carrying out holistic occupational therapy assessment
  • Experience of analysing a person’s occupational performance and participation, activity analysis
  • Experience of treatment planning and goal setting
  • Experience working in a health care setting
  • Experience of working in a professional multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of planning and delivering groups or training sessions
  • Experience of managing a case load
  • Experience of writing reports and recommendations
  • Experience of communicating sensitively with a diverse range of clients
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive information with discretion and maintaining confidentiality at all times
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using a coaching approach
  • Experience of Job Demands Analysis
  • Experience of using the Allied Health Professional Health and Work Report
  • Experience within an occupational health or well-being service.
  • Experience of working in condition or rehabilitation management such as pain, fatigue, stress/anxiety management, neurorehabilitation and/or other long term conditions

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of relevant consent and confidentiality legislation/GDPR
  • Knowledge of current occupational health issues and an ability to keep abreast of current initiatives and best practice
  • Working understanding of relevant employment law in an occupational health context e.g. Equality Act 2010 and reasonable adjustment application
  • Good understanding of equality diversity and belonging and how they affect the workplace
  • Awareness of current trends and issues in NHS staff health and wellbeing.
