We are looking for innovative specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Early Pregnancy to complement our consults team’s set of skills. You will be based at Peterborough City Hospital with cross site working as required at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and Stamford and Rutland Hospital.

Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as ‘Good’ by CQC in June 2023. They have fully equipped obstetric, and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high-risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with all 3 modules- Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal. The unit has achieved UNICEF Level 3 for Breast Feeding Initiative (BFI).

We are a Postgraduate Medical Education Centre with a reputation for teaching and training with strong links with Leicester and Cambridge.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitments consist of 10 programmed activities (PAs) for each post.

You will pursue an interest in line with service needs and an opportunity to provide leadership to General Obstetrics and Gynaecology while maintaining the highest clinical standards in the management of Obstetric patients.

As a specialist in Early pregnancy, you will deliver care for women with early pregnancy complications and termination of pregnancy as well as providing clinical input and leadership for the specialty.

In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, you will facilitate the delivery of high standard care for patients in Acute Obstetrics and Maternal medicine.

You will liaise with the management team to develop the infrastructure for the provision of the service and accept personal responsibility for the clinical care of patients.

You will attend regular departmental meetings and participate in department management and development of the service.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM Benign Gynaecology/ Early pregnancy
  • CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalence either subspecialisation or ‘grandfathering’
Desirable criteria
  • ATSM Hysteroscopy
  • Labour Ward Lead ATSM or equivalence or ‘grandfathering’
  • TOP services experience or ‘ grandfathering’

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of MDT team working , practice and providing leadership in managing labour ward and acute emergencies
  • Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics
  • Broad experience in obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Able to perform laparoscopic treatment for ectopic pregnancy
Desirable criteria
  • MOET/ALSO instructor/PROMPT course
  • Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels

Academic Achievements

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Attendance and presentation [incl poster] at national or international Obstetric and gynae meetings
  • Evidence of completed and published research
