Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist within the South West area of Cardiff.

The CMHT is based in Cardiff Bay and covers the neighbourhoods of Butetown, Grangetown, Riverside and Canton, with a combined population of 57,586.   

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.  The basic salary range for this post is £91,722 per annum to £119,079 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards.  Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full.  In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as Responsible Clinician to clients cared for by the neighbourhood services who are in-patients or in the community under the Mental Health Act 1983 and in accordance with the Wales Mental Health Measure.  The post holder will manage both community and in-patients but they are supported by a Consultant colleague in the Crisis Service who manages the early part of acute admissions (up to 14 days).  South West (Hamadryad) Cardiff CMHT covers a diverse city area of Cardiff with some areas of deprivation and serves an adult population of approximately 65,000.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.  

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine will be expected.

Essential criteria
