JUNIOR CLINICAL FELLOW - SPINAL SURGERY (STRL)
Applications are invited for the above Spinal post vacant from 05 August 2026 to work at both the University Hospital of Wales & Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales.
The post holder will work with nine dedicated Spinal Orthopaedic Consultants who are actively involved in all aspects of spinal surgery ranging from degenerative cervical and lumbar disease to tumour and scoliosis. The Welsh Institute for Spinal Trauma & Surgery is a recognised AO Spine Reference Centre.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in all aspects of spinal surgery and there is an active research programme in place including basic science laboratory facilities. The ULHB is associated with Cardiff University and excellent postgraduate facilities are available.
The Post Holder will be work along side the Senor Spinal Fellows covering Spinal Wards, elective and Trauma spinal patients.
The post is not educationally approved and will therefore not attract a National Training Number.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Desirable criteria
- ATLS Provider
- Academic Excellence, Prizes, distinctions etc
- MSc or PHD
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- 12 months postgraduate experience in Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery (Core Trainee or equivalent)
- Experience of UK healthcare systems (in particular Wales)
Desirable criteria
- 6 months experience in spinal surgery orthopaedic or neurosurgery
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE ,
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Up to date with current medical practices
- Ability to perform basic spinal surgical procedures under supervision

- Research interests in areas of specific expertise
- Exposure to basic spinal surgical procedures
